If you stay in a pet-friendly motel/hotel with your cat or dog, how do you ensure the staff is aware of your pet’s presence?

Travel experts highly-recommend that when you and your pet stay in a pet-friendly hotel/motel to hang a “do not disturb” sign on your guestroom door to alert staff so they don’t inadvertently or accidentally let your pet out when they enter to clean the room. Yet the “do not disturb” signs that hotels/motels supply are generic and do not specifically indicate that a pet also is sharing the room.
