Wine Time in Arizona (continued)

Back in Sedona, those who prefer a stein to a wine goblet will want to visit the Oak Creek Brewing Company, Sedona's only microbrewery open since 1995. Some of their beers include a Gold Lager, Nut Brown Ale, and Pale Ale that earned Owners Fred and Rita Kraus a Silver Medal at the 2005 Great American Beer Festival Competition. In 2000, the owners combined talents with local culinarians to create Sedona's only brew pub, the Oak Creek Brewery & Grill in Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village. www.oakcreekbrew.com

There's also a microbrewery in Prescott, about 60 miles away, which makes for a lovely day trip. John and Roxane Nielsen opened the Prescott Brewing Company in 1994 and feature handcrafted beers and pub fare. www.prescottbrewingcompany.com

And if wineries and breweries aren't reason enough to visit Sedona, you also can "pig out" in Red Rock Country, at least until October 2007. "Javelinas on Parade!™," which got its impetus from our own Windy City's wildly-successful "Cows on Parade," features a life-size, fiberglass mother and baby javelina. For those not fluent in Arizona mammals, the javelina looks like a pig, but actually is a collared peccary of three feet in length, two feet in height and tips the scales at 40 pounds.

More than 30 javelinas are displayed in Sedona's largest public art exhibition, decorated by established and debuting local artists and sponsored by businesses and individuals. www.JavelinasonParade.com

And regardless of what time it truly is back in Illinois (virtually all of Arizona doesn't observe daylight savings time, so from the last Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April, cocktail hour begins one hour earlier while the rest of the year it's two hours), it's never the wrong time to try a fine Arizona wine!
