E-cards Designed for Pet Lovers and Pets

By Susan Bard Hall

You just remembered that today is your best friend’s birthday. She’s a cat fancier and you’ve seen several cards that would be just purr-fect for her. But you never quite got around to buying one. Now, it’s raining cats and dogs, and even if you brave the elements and risk looking like a drowned rat, the card wouldn’t arrive until tomorrow unless you hand-delivered it or hired a messenger. But what other choice do you have?

E-cards to the rescue! In addition to the growing number of pet-themed greeting card lines sold by major and boutique retailers, there are an increasing number of on-line companies that offer a virtually unlimited number of virtual well-wishes, including those that are designed for pet lovers and pets.

Here’s a sampling of the web sites I’ve found. They all allow you to send the e-card for delivery that same day or at a later date of your choosing; will acknowledge that your e-card has been sent; and will inform you when the recipient has read your card. Not only are these e-cards incredibly-convenient, the ones listed below are free!

www.zing.com: Zing.com is much more than a way to send e-cards. This web site describes itself as a picture community. But for our purposes, we’ll look at the greeting card function. Click on Zing Cards. You can create a custom card using a photo from your own album (once established) or select one from the Zing collection by first selecting an occasion (I used birthday) and then a subject (animals).

Once you know it’s going to be a birthday card with a photo of a cat, you can add a title and personal message. You can preview the final version before sending it, in case you want to make any changes. You must sign onto Zing (no cost or obligation) by choosing a member name and password before sending your first card.
