InnCats Are In! (continued)
However, Bell warns guests not to leave their car doors or windows open because Tigger, Kali and Dufus all have a tendency to explore. Kali is an eight-year-old calico that Bell found living alone in another property she once managed, while Dufus was rescued shortly after her birth on a nearby boat. Because she is slightly cross-eyed and tends to bump into things as a kitten, she was affectionately called Dufus, and it just stuck.

Jetty of Beacon Bed and Breakfast in British Columbia, Canada, also has a connection with cars. Cohost Shirley Randall explains that Jetty got her name because, at the time, she and her husband, Roger, owned a Volkswagon Jetta and her purr reminded them of the motor.

In fact, it was a car that brought Jetty into their lives. One day when Randall drove her daughter to work at a wildlife santuary, a two-month-old kitten greeted them upon arrival. Somehow, the kitty with the unique tortoiseshell coloring got into the car, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Because Jetty is featured on the B & B’s brochure, prospective guests are aware Beacon has a resident cat. Randall said her presence provides a homey atmosphere, which is especially appealing to those who have been on extended holiday and are experiencing “cat withdrawal.”

“When guests see the cat, they really feel at home,” Randall says.

Captain Nemo of the Golden Gate Hotel in San Francisco, California, also has become such an important part of the property that he is prominently-featured on its promotional literature. Gabriele Kenaston says they recently redesigned their T-shirts, worn by the staff and for sale to guests, to include Captain Nemo’s likeness.
